Drass

Drass is the coldest inhabited place in India and the second coldest, inhabited place in the world, after Siberia. It is a small town that is 60 km away from Kargil, and 144 km away from Srinagar, located on Srinagar Kargil National Highway. . The Drass valley is formed by the Drass River which rises in the Machio glacier located at the famous ZOZILA pass. The river is joined in its course by other river & small streams following in from snow fields nearby mountains.

Often known as the “Gateway to Ladakh”, It is at a height of 10,800 feet (3,300 m) Drass lies in the centre of the valley of the same name (Dras valley). Dras is 140 km from Srinagar and 63 km from Sonmarg. Drass has become an important halting place for travellers going to Leh and Kargil. There is a Tourist compex with Tourist Office and Accommodation blocks. There are a number of Hotels and tea stalls are in Drass. One can have superb views of War Time Hill features like Tiger Hill and Tololing from here.
